on iso creation on winreducer there is option save in a wim file and there is split what i must type there to maximum compression ?

integration of 27 updates was ok now my wim file is 1.73GB   so maybe this compression is automatically set to maximum cos this 27 updates has 206MB.

Yes, the maximum compression is automatically done by WinReducer !  

"Split size" : Specify the size of your wim file to cut it in parts, useful when using a fat32 formatted usb thumb drive (fat32 restriction to 4gb maximum per files)...  

Bugs:

1)It seems that if I load the wrong preset then try load the correct one it doesn't clear the previous preset.

2) When I cancel or close out of WinReducer once iso/wim is mounted and i get the start/options/exit dialogue i cannot click on the start/options dialogue, have to exit the program completely and start it again.
Is this intentional?

Hey, Winter ! Glad to see you back, dude . Hey, look. I've posted some requests in the corresponding forum. Check them out. Maybe you'll get interested in some of them .

Oh, and I can confirm what @spidernz said about the unknown exception. I always get that error after having configured WinReducer. It is solved by simply closing and running it again, but it is still an error.

Regarding 2) Have a restart option then that cleans up restarts and loads the iso/wim up again?


4)The Tool tip texts I think should be one size bigger and/or possibly bolded for better reading.

6) Iso extraction needs a progress bar not a processing bar. (ie like the mounting one)

7) Can timers be added to the Wim/Iso extraction & mounting screens
Also the apply screen either counting up or down so that users can know how long things take.

Under Features & Services:

a) "Select All" option at the top with a drop down to choose what to change all the drop downs to so that we can have the majority for example highlighted as "remove"/"disable" then change individual ones to other things.

b) If the "-" is suppose to represent the ideal/default choice the it would be better like
"-Manual-" or "*Manual*" that way you can see what the ideal/default choice is rather than having to click the drop down to see what's missing


9) Under Remover:

a) All - If I select all items individually the tittle check box doesn't tick automatically


b) Drivers section - rearrange the names of the support ones so its like together:

Support - Bluetooth
Support - ISA
Support - Modem

c) Maybe separate Modern UI & Control Panel into sub headings of Accessories or it own headings

d) When a config is saved the "control panel - internet options &
control panel - internet options (file) get auto selected and added in. (Also removes it, it seems when you apply)

e) Makes clearer sense.

No, there is no problem but you are in a complete "manual mode" ...

1. "Automatic removing" could help you removing depending components according to the WinReducer 8.1 Database

2. "Protect important files" could help you keeping a fully functional system in case you want to reduce a lot your system

Hi guys,

I'm having a lot a trouble getting a fully working ISO, i would appreciate your help.

I'm on my 4th ISO creation and every time i cant change "advanced sharing settings" for my network. Basically, my network location is set to private, i can't change that and can't share anything with other network devices.

I reviewed the removed components many, many, many times and i still can't figure out what component could cause that. My Christmas mood is slowly going away haha.

Any idea is more than welcomed.

Read the Changelog.pdf file in the zip package, you have a "Known Bugs" part (in red) in which you could see that "Homegroup Services" is responsible about your trouble (6th point) ...

My ISO was building as i type this without removing this service; seemed like the only one that could have some remote connection with sharing

Sorry, but it worked for me and I didn't be able to reproduce it.   

Please try with a new untouched ISO in winreducer v0.99.4, and let me know the result .... Thank you !

Great work winterstorm as always. Perhaps a silly question. Is pre-final something like Release Candidate stage? No meaning to rush you, but I just would like to know cause I've been waiting for some time to make a build using "final" build

yeah it's stable enough to use, but has the occasional bug and crash, aka yeah Rc/Gamma stage.

Hi Winter,

Still having trouble with this.
I didn't select Homegroup services for removal, i can see them when starting services.msc.
However i cant start the service "Function Discovery Resource Publication", i get an "access denied" error. So i still can't browse the network. Any idea what other components/features/services could be the culprit here?

I'm totally agree with spidernz : you could consider v0.99.x like RC stage (for me it's pre-final) ... ;)Before Final, I will integrate new functions and activate other ones, but when Updates tools will be available we will be near a Final version !    I can't tell you when but should be in less than 2 weeks ...

Did so, still can't get user account picture to work.  

Tried in two different laptops. Apart from that, everything else seems to work.

Also, two points I thought I should mention:

1) Checking one of the optimizations - the one that says do not remove if you use WinPE - causes setup to fail. All other optimizations are OK.
2) Removing the app readiness service causes several updates to fail. So the best way is to keep it in the ISO, install windows, install all updates, and then disable the service using msconfig.

why do you create 2 types of WinReducer? instead of meaking 1 and adding somewhere (maybe at the Load/save preset page) an option (with a warning) to enable/disable the experimental/ advanced optons?

wouldnt it be easier for you? so you wouldnt need to create 2 tools and upload them etc? and also not so confusing for the users?

Yes, I will integrate all expert options in the stable build once I will have enough feedback about those new options. As I don't have bad feedbacks, so maybe you are right, it's time to add them in the stable build ... So I will add them in v0.99.5 and they will activated by default ... Because the goal of WinReducer is to reduce Windows ...

There is something that is puzzling me. I have installed reduced windows on two different laptops, from the same reduced ISO. After installing all updates and a few small programs I require, the installed size on one laptop is 6.5 Gb, but on the other is a little more that 10 Gb. Any idea why this happens? The only difference in installed software is that the second laptop has an Nvidia graphics card, and I have installed the drivers for that. But that cannot account for such a big discrepancy. Also, the former uses an SSD, and the latter has a mechanical hard drive. Everything else is the same.
