hey winter,

i used the same preset as i do each time, just selecting the new registry tweaks.
My iso is 21mb smaller as e.g. with version 2.99.5.0 but i am getting this error during installation:

WinReducer 7.0 - FINAL Builds - Page 18 4klyqz4e

if you dont already know whats causing this i will (tomorrow or the day after) hunt it down whats causing it

EDIT: i think i got it. i just checked the iso

EDID2:

yes, after moving the files from inside EPERIMENTAL to WinSxS folder, the installation was ok

hey winter,

Code:

- NEW : "Tweaks - Explorer - Remove Burn"
- NEW : "Tweaks - Explorer - Remove Include in Library"
- NEW : "Tweaks - Explorer - Remove Library Pane"

this tweaks didnt work, the registry entries are still present

Oops, yes a stupid mistake, I will release a new build today to solve this !  Very Happy

--> "EXPERT - WinSxS Folder Cleanup" is working for me.

--> To take ownership of a registry key, you could simply use SetACL with this command line:

SetACL.exe -on "%REGISTRY_KEY%" -ot reg -actn setowner -ownr "n:S-1-5-32-544" -rec cont_obj -silent & SetACL.exe -on "%REGISTRY_KEY%" -ot reg -actn ace -ace "n:S-1-5-32-544;p:full" -ace "n:S-1-5-32-545;p:full" -rec cont_obj -silent & REG DELETE "%REGISTRY_KEY%" /F

In which "S-1-5-32-544" = Administrator and "S-1-5-32-545" = Current User

yes the folder cleanup works for me too, but the files which should be in Windows\WinSxs are in WIndows\WinsxS\ERPERIMENTAL

only the sticky note resource is in winsxs folder like you see at the picture above

EDIT: it looks like this:

Code:

Guys I would like to let you know that the WinSXS cleanup in Winreducer works great, it works even better than in vLite.
I have finally finished and tested my Micro edition with the contribution of Billybully and KrX =) . So I am using this stripped down ISO as my base, of course without Windows updates.
When I would like to integrate the latest Windows updates I am using this Guide , after successfully integrating all updates I clean the winsxs folder again with Winreducer's WinSXS expert cleanup.

There are some language files and folders which are ignored by Winreducer's WinSXS cleanup, I manually delete those which of course are not needed.
Maybe Winterstorm can program Winreducer to detect the Windows ISO and then delete those unneeded language files and folders in the winsxs folder.

This is my result:

Win7SP1x64_Micro ( without Windows Updates ): 529 MB
Win7SP1x64_Micro_April2014 ( with 396 Windows Updates ): 593 MB

Fazit: You don't need vLite for the WinSXS cleanup anymore, Winreducer cleans much better. In fact Winreducer removes additional ~50 MB ISO size, and that's a lot Wink

Cheers

Edit: Need to say this was tested with v2.99.4.1 though Wink

so ive tested it.
First i need to say i realized that the expert cleanup options take some time while doing "nothing" (it looks to me so)

after Winsxs backup folder cleanup (folder Backup was empty) this step took another 5 minutes till it took the next step.

while doing the winsxs folder cleanup it "stoped" after deleting all amd64--- folders for maybe 10 mnutes (again for me it didnt do anything. because for the 10 minutes the folders didnt decrease, 10minutes 3762 folders or so were inside winsxs)
after 10 minutes it deleted again folders toll winsxs folder was empty

i also saw that at the root of the mounted folder a new folder named EXPERIMENTAL was created in which the nessessary folders where copyed.

After deleting all folders at WinSxs it took again ~5 minutes till the next step was done.

after finishing all steps, i looked at the Windows folder but the "WinSxS" folder was missing.

Sorry if I'm not posting this in the right place, but how do you achieve ISO sizes of 700 mb?
I tried both RT7Lite and WinReducer 2.99.5 and could make no less than 1.5 GB ISO. I admit being a newbie, but could you tell me what I am doing wrong?

Hello,

Nice feedback home7echers, thank you !

To solve many troubles (windows features) you could try the latest build available : v2.99.5.2 !

Hello,

It seems you are using a x64 ISO, so this is normal that the size is more important than a x86.

To answer you : this size is generally obtain (for a x64 ISO) with the help of all "Optimizations - EXPERT" components. But take care, using them, you probably loose some functionalities you need. Maybe you could give it a shot and see what happens !  Wink

Thank you for the answer. Now I understand a little bit better.

Also, I found something that seems like a bug:
After using the version from the download link for some time, it stopped creating an iso.
All the processes complete successfully, but no output file exists.

Hello guys,

It could be a windows access writing permission trouble, try to recreate your WinReducer folder in another location (the best one is your "%USERPROFILE%" folder).

Regards.

Hey KrX,

Those Tweaks you mentioned will be fixed in v2.99.5.3 (release tomorrow).

For the EXPERIMENTAL folder, I'm investigating it but for the moment it works for me. I will do more tests before tomorrow.

hey winter, im getting an error while installing Visual C++ Runtimes because

VSSAPI.dll is missing (system32) after adding it everything is ok

so maybe you could add this file to the protect preset ?

WinReducer 7.0 - FINAL Builds - Page 18 Cnyuupl7

im also getting an error (1603) when installing Java (you can see it at the picture above)
if you dont know whats causing it i will try to find it out (with the next version you release)

this problems happen on an .iso only reduced with WinReducer

Guys,

1) I got your file, I will try to use it today and tell you how this works for me ...
2) For sysprep, this is normal, because it's not available to remove ! I created the protected preset because some files provided for another components could break it, so they needed to be protected.

I experienced only once, because I'm using an external USB drive, are you ? I've kill the process, then I moved the winreducer folder in a new location on a HDD directly connected to my motherboard and it never happened again. Let me know, please.

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.

For example:

<configuration>
    <system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.
