Just finished a GA1 updated pro edition with beta 5: reduced the iso to 2,2gb. Installed size: 4,9gb
the best thing: No bugs found yet

Just letting you guys know, that I've tested (Immensely) Winreducer v8.1 Beta5 on Windows 8.1 Enterprise edition x64, and haven't come across any Issues thus far.

All ran smoothly with positive results.

No, not directly. You will need to install Windows 8.1 to your main machine or install it to a VM and customize from there.
Winter apparently had to restrict WinReducer8.1 to Windows 8.1 due to some design decisions. My best guess is that DISM has some features in 8.1 that are useful for WinReducer8.1.

Hey guys,
So here's my first report on the beta5. I didn't touch WinReducer 8.1 since it started as I wanted to have a complete working solution. That's why the report is so long and also because I'm a bit perfectionist Embarassed

I have to admit.

Overall experience is good. Winter, thanks a lot, really. My report could some rude, but I'm just throwing my impressions. WinReducer is great.
I still have some problems with corrupted component store and a few features not working, still doing some tests.
Points listed below concerns mostly ergonomic use which I think is not very good at first. I was also able to see that the tips I've made need lots of improvement for new users not familiar with WinReducer.
Good reading and please guys, give your feedback and comments.

Flo's Report Beta5 :

1.   Start: When I click on “Folder” or “Iso”, it would be nice to automatically open the explorer windows, instead of having to click a second time on "Open" (I don't see the point of having this Open button).

2.   Error when saving wccf on existing one (overwrite).
Procedure: Just save your wccf. Then save again on the same one to overwrite and you get an error.

3.   I tick Features (with some removed things already setup in the right panel), then I tick Optimizations. Result: features becomes unticked. This is weird (same thing when we load a wccf, it's looks like nothing has been removed, see next point as solution).

4.   Left Panel, as soon as we start selecting some components in a list (for example, in Network, I select Smart Screen), the main category (Network) should be greyed or have a small square to indicate that at least one component has been selected but not the whole category.
It would be nice to have also something like Remove Network (1/6) to show only one component has been selected. nb: this could solve the previous point.

5.   Left column: when I click on features word (even if I don’t tick the case), it should show right panel.

6.   Left column: then if I click on internet explorer, it shouldn't show the "features" right panel again.

7.   Right Panel: It would be nice to see help/tips appearing as soon as we hover the mouse over the entire line (selection case + feature name), it's quite annoying having to go right on the text and go back to remove/disable (I know I’m lazy).

8.   Left panel: that goes also for the left panel, the tips should appear as soon as we hover something instead of selecting it.

9.   Internet explorer: It says Option tab available in right panel. I don't see any when I tick it. Same for Appearance and system.

10.   Features: 4 options available for each feature. Blank, minus, remove, disable. Whas is the - minus? If it's nothing, it shouldn't be selectable.

11.   Right Panel: mouse/keyboard scrolling doesn't work as focus stays on last removed feature (lazy again).

12.   Action Center: if I choose to delete “Action center”, it would be nice to automatically select “Control Panel - Action Center” (because I don't know if I should remove it or not). That goes for other similar features.

13.   Windows Search: If I choose to remove Windows Search from features, it should automatically select indexing options, services... That goes for other similar features.

14.   Control Panel Action Center, I think the tip is not right (my bad probably).

15.   Actually Control Panel components should have (shortcut) indication at the end. It will save us from reading the tip.

16.   If I remove a Control Panel XX (files), it should automatically select the shortcut.

17.   These new Control Panel files don't have tips. Do you need them? If yes, it would be nice to have more details about what is being removed.

18.   Actually many things don't have tips. Did you implement all the one I wrote? If yes, I've got more work to do.

19.   Control Panel, Ease of access: I selected it, yet the CP shortcut is not removed after installation of Windows.

20.   History Vault / Secure Startup / Sensors / Workspaces center: not clear to me. In a sense, it's not written like this in Control Panel, so it's not easy to see what is being removed. Could you be more specifics so that I can add some tips?

21.   Sensors: Can someone that sensors are still working if not ticked? It doesn’t for me.

22.   Mobile PC: Can someone confirm that Mobility Center is still working if not ticked in Accessories and multimedia?

23.   IMAPI tips to add: IMAPI, is a component of Microsoft Windows operating system used for CD and DVD authoring and recording. Windows applications such as Windows Media Player, Windows Media Center, Windows Movie Maker, Windows DVD Maker, and Windows Explorer use IMAPI to create ISO images and "burn" discs.

24.   Tips MetroUI apps: It needs a bit of grammatical corrections on all of them as you removed the beginning of the sentence.

25.   By the way, even if my English is not too bad, this is not my first language. Therefore, it would be nice to have a good correction from a native on the tips/help work we've done with Winter please Wink

26.   Some important component should be marked in Red or having an exclamation mark at the end.

27.   Internet explorer also appears in Remove Network, I think it should only be in one place, it’s confusing.

28.   System: nothing appears on the right side.

29.   Unattended: Selecting a system language that we choose to delete previously should be indicated. I shouldn’t be able to choose Croatian if I selected it previously without any warning.

30.   Same for keyboard.

31.   Automatic Removing Process: Tip not clear to me, sorry.

32.   Exit: if we choose not to start a remove process today. We select exit and we have a message “do you want to exit?” “YES sir”. Then it shows the main WinReducer windows with only the Exit button to select, then yes or no. It's too long. If the only option is to exit when we select the first yes, then it would be nice that the un-mounting process starts and when it's over, it goes back to the main windows or it closes WinReducer completely.

33.   Removing process windows: what's the double arrow up and down (bottom right of the windows)?

34.   New feature: Customize right click on desktop

35.   New Feature: Customize Win+X special menu

36.   New feature: completely disable metro (I'd love to see this) + delete the new useless start button (or replace it by third party)
37.   New feature: If previous not possible, completely disable the charm bar
38.   New Feature: Replace Win+F Win+S metro search by explorer search

39.   New Tweak: Disable automatic restart after update

40.   New Tweak: Change windows border size (very thin)

41.   New Feature: I don't know what size the help feature is taking, but it would be nice to be able to delete the offline help but keeping the help feature alive to only use it online (if it's already the case, apologies)

43.   New feature: automatically setup size of hibernate file "cmd" "powercfg -h -size 50%"

I agree with @KrXKrX2, winter. Half of the problems new users have are related to trying to use the wrong program with the wrong Windows image. I've read about guys trying to use WinReducer 8 with Windows 7 for God's sake, haha. It would greatly help new users if you implement a popup that tells them what Windows versions are compatible with the software.

BTW, when are you releasing the new language files for us to translate, dude?

I think most of us would agree with your points, and take them in the best spirit as you have put in a lot of thought that will no doubt help to make WinReducer an even better tool for all Smile

For me, the point that was really interesting, is if we select something to remove, that it highlights/warns us what other components will be removed /need to be removed (like RT7lite).

@winter: To make that the tool more user friendly, I would also propose the following:
1. Move services and tweaks to bottom of left panel, so they are the last to be performed, and all components removed will have made the corresponding options deselected
2. Move the presets section to the top, so that is what people do as a first step
3. Could you also add a preset for protecting wifi?

i messed around with a 8.1 x64 enterprise image today, worked perfectly. it has the rollup integrated already from microsoft.

I also find that the Beta 5 release works great on the Enterprise edition of Windows 8.1.

I shall test other editions soon.

Personally, I don't agree with this part of the review:

"Working with Winreducer 8 is time consuming and requires extensive knowledge of the underpinnings of Windows OS for a more refined installation file."

I don't believe It's time consuming at all, and everything Inclusive In Winreducer Is pretty much self-explanatory. "requires extensive knowledge" Is a huge exaggeration.

I will release the beta 6 in few hours today, and it should be a great version with many new customizations options (change shell32.dll windows file, and a totally new and improved ModernUI configuration with many options).

The next beta 7 will have drivers, updates and net framework integration as well as many new things using all your ideas (especially from seiferflo's huge ideas list ! Wink

)... I hope to release it for the next week-end ...

Automation in fonts removing ... language select for removing same auto select related language font for remove ...Ex... i select urdu language for deletion then also font auto select for delete from iso ... its hard to know which font for which language ... automation make simple task ....

FOR THIS BETA 6, IT'S REALLY IMPORTANT TO FOLLOW THESE INFORMATIONS :

1. YOU NEED TO UPDATE THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE FILE AND THE OFFICIAL THEME. FOR THIS YOU NEED TO DELETE "English.xml" (in Languages folder) and WinReducer81 folder (in Themes folder) TO REPLACE THEM USING THE HOWTO FILE PROVIDED WITH THE ZIP PACKAGE.

2. Many components names have been changed, so in order to avoid troubles you need to recreate a new wccf file. And after beta 6, you could consider wccf file as stable. So there won't be major changes in components names ... Sorry for this !

So if you'll discover a bug, please let me know in this thread.

Enough talking, go test this new WinReducer 8.1 build ...

Hi,

there is very small problem with focus in Beta 6.
I mentioned, when I opened the "Feautures" and maybe choose "Net Framework 4.5" -> "Remove", the focus is at that time at the box "Remove".
You now can click in the background, or at some other text, but when I use the mousewheel to go up or down in the "Feautures" window, only the box "Remove" changes to "Disable" or "-".
