Also, you have to have your image mounted first with WinReducer to do this.

Another option is the process that I use, which is to install Windows 8.1 to a virtual machine (VMWare) and install all my apps, etc.
Then I use DISM to create an install.wim from that and then I use WinReducer on the new install.wim image I have created.
Works perfectly and I have all my apps and system setup exactly as I want it Smile

Now the hotfix integration runs in Winreducer7 vers. 299.1.2. But the same problem exists with Winreducer 8.1 ! I know I must post it in the other forum, it's ok.

I'm not sure if I have the wccf anymore, I'll check. The issue happens if the administrator account is not checked using winreducer. If admin account is selected before reducing, then it doesn't happen.

I'm using an all in one 64 bit ISO, and using only the core 64 bit version from it.

Edit: I have the last wccf I used, with which the user pic change works. But the only difference between that and the previous one I used, is that I enabled the admin account. Without that admin account and password, the wccf is the same as the ones used previously, when it did not work. I'll PM it to you.

Hey guys,

I discovered an old bug with "Split wim" tool in the "ISO Creator - Save in a WIM file" : if your "install.wim" size is lower than the split size you choose ... Your install.wim file is deleted each time, so be careful when using it until tomorrow (As I will fix it).

Strangely enough, it is working now. I don't know what was wrong earlier. It seems the issue went away on its own.

I have another issue, that skydrive was not removed, although I selected it for removal. Other than network-skydrive, is there anything else I should select, for skydrive to be removed?

1) OK, excellent ! Thank you ...

2) In fact, in the standalone Tools window (without mounting Windows) "UEFI Boot Compatibility" option didn't work properly.

The standalone tools window could be found if you click in the Launcher window (1st window displayed when you launched WinReducer) on "HOME" icon, then "TOOLS" icon => display standalone tool !

Krx informed me when using "ISO File Creator - Save in a WIM file", WinReducer also creates an ISO with the default name in the ISO folder.

It will be fixed at the end of the week, with a new Modern UI Apps remover !

I am having huge issues here. After shrinking some basic stuff, I can no longer perform updates. I mean I can perform them, but that's the end of 8.1 since I will get a huge blank screen after reboot. Can't pass that, tried several ways

It happens because ''app readiness service'' is running. When the blank screen appears, simply wait for three minutes or so, and the desktop will appear normally. Or if you are impatient, use ctrl-alt-delete to bring up task manager and end app readiness service. It is tricky, because you have to click the arrow to make the service expand, and then click the sub-category that appears, with the same name, and end it. I would suggest simply wait for 3-4 minutes.

Once you have access to the desktop, go to services and disable app readiness service, and the issue won't come up again. Otherwise you will get a black screen for three minutes every reboot.

Winter - Any way to prevent this issue from happening at all, I mean to have app readiness service running but get no black screen? If we disable app readiness, some updates will not work. We could update and then disable it, but I'm wondering if there is an easier way.

Maybe Windows searches for updates during 1st login. Because I never experienced such thing, by using unattended file with "Unattended - Protect your PC" using "Disable Windows Update" (3rd choice).

@all: I will release a new maintenance build today with an updated Modern UI Apps removing process !

I don't have that issue immediately after installation, because I too disable windows update in the unattended settings. What I do is install all updates after installation. If metro apps have been removed, then several updates cause black screen upon reboot. Either we have to identify and avoid all those updates (less that optimal solution, since we lose the benefits of some of those updates), or we have to disable the service after installing updates. Then, occasionally microsoft releases an update that will fail if that service is not turned on, so we have to temporarily enable it to install that update.

Maybe there is no way around this, as the name of the service implies that it is checking the apps, and if we have removed the metro apps with winreducer, the app malfunctions. I'm wondering if leaving behind some particular file(s) while removing metro apps will prevent this black screen from happening.

I used MSMG Toolkit and removed all apps and everything is fine so use that and see what happens for you.

The only catch is if you wanna remove some individual apps it takes awhile cos always mounts and remounts.

OK, I've updated the Modern UI Apps removing process, and it should be OK in the next v1.04 build (released today) ... In fact in previous versions, WinReducer didn't use the default windows way using Dism, so I think it's the reason ... Starting with the next v1.04, this trouble should be solved !
