Hi winter, I'm having a problem with winreducer rc2.. In the end of the installationon a VM, a cmd windows pops up sayng something about DISM, then a % goes from 0 to 100 and then the system boots.. What is it? Never had it on winreducer for windows 8..

Another thing, the system asks me for a serial in the end, which i don't want to because i am using an ei.cfg file and i want to enter the serial later.. Why does it keeps asking?

Here's my wccf file.. thanks!

Hi, is it just me, or Windows Firewall removal doesn't work? I've selected it to "Remove" in Winreducer 1.0 RC2, but after booting to slimmed down ISO it's still there.
Everything else works correctly in my case (for example, Windows Defender Removal works as expected).
Thank you winterstorm for your hard work :)Cheers!

And I have a little suggestion, an option to change font would be nice, because Comic Sans is unpleasant to work with :3

Hello Carlese,

1. The cmd window  appears because you are using "Unattended - WinSXS DISM Cleanup".

2. Could you please copy/paste by PM your "autounattended.xml" file ? To see, if there is something wrong accroding to your wccf file ?

Thanks.

No. I did use 'unattended' to put in the license key, and skip a few steps. But did not touch the admin account section.

If you select Administrator Account your problem has been solved

Winter, could you confirm this?

descriptionWinReducer 8.1 (Old discussion) - Page 29 EmptyRe: WinReducer 8.1 (Old discussion)

Hello,

No, I'm not confirming this.

But, I've experienced troubles using "Administrator account" with "Services - Wlan Service" and/or "Services - Wwan Service" removed. It seems that if you remove these services, at the first login the administrator account name is in English and not in your language (for example : in French it should be "Administrateur" but if you remove one of these services, the name is always in English "Administrator"), and the system can't find any correct username.

I'm not sure, but to avoid it you could do this : use a username with "UAC disable" (you will have the security to enable UAC at any time for your safety)

I'm reducing an ISO with the admin account turned on right now. I will let you know the result later. Apart from that, do you have any idea why the account picture issue has come up again?

Also, when I tried reducing an ISO a little while back, with the admin account turned on, but without a password, the installation failed. So I'm trying with password this time. After installing, is there a way to remove the password, since I don't want a password on my system?

Just a quick question to anyone who feels like comparing data: The entire process on my (not particularly "formula one") quadcore brand new Win 8.1 Pro 64 bit notebook takes from beginning to end almost 4.5 hours... Is this normal? I find it rather slow considering that I am loding my preset and I don't have to go though each and evey item...  Shocked

Thanks for any indication Smile

descriptionWinReducer 8.1 (Old discussion) - Page 29 EmptyRe: WinReducer 8.1 (Old discussion)

@aymanalz :
1. No idea why account picture bug is gone, I don't experienced it with v1.00 (final).

2. When you enable Administrator account in WinReducer the password string becomes red ... So you need to enter a password for security reason. If you don't want one, if think in the forum there is a discussion on it (don't remember where) or create a thread in the help forum for it (guys like KrX or theKramer could help you with that) ...

descriptionWinReducer 8.1 (Old discussion) - Page 29 EmptyRe: WinReducer 8.1 (Old discussion)

@Archimede : Strange, because on my core i5-3550 it takes me with an Extreme preset around 1 H 20 max.

EDIT : In the "ReadMe.pdf", you have an optimization mini guide to help you ...  Wink  But antivirus could slow by much the process, fragmented Hard drive even more ...

4,5 hours is a lot of time oO

i mount everything on my ramdisk (32gb) and i use a notebook with i7 2670qm

and removing a lot of stuff takes like 30 mins.

i also am operating from an already reduced windows (no firewall, no UAC, no AV etc)

look at your unattended.xml where the "password" is stored. if you dont wanna a password you need to fill in a space " " and save it.

theKramer wrote it here:

i didnt test it at the moment, because reducing windows 7, translating WinReducer 8.1 and learning for test at my university at the moment

@ winterstorm2050 + @ KrX:

Thanks for your quick response I am also performing the reduction on an clean installed, defragmented, already reduced windows (so no firewall, no UAC, no AV etc). No ramdisk Sad

I guess that I will study the "optimization mini guide".

@ winterstorm2050 (or anybody else who knows how): Could you please suggest a way to permanently remove (all) Metro Apps and (some of the) Windows Accessories (I don't need them at all) from another notebook that runs a full Win 8.1 pro 64 bit installation (please don't tell me that I need to install the reduced version also there, because it is not my own notebook Very Happy)

Thanks Smile

amin20 was right about the 'User account picture' bug. When I enabled the administrator account before reducing, I am able to change user account picture. But I don't want my account to be named 'Administrator', so what can I do?

I thought the issue was solved with v.99.6. Seems to be back, unfortunately. If the admin account is not selected, user account picture cannot be changed. For me, at least.

Definitely not normal. Have you used the program on any other machine? Having an SSD or ramdisk or both will significantly speed things up. But for me, on a laptop with a mechanical hard disk, first gen core i5 and not much ram, it takes about 2 hours. But on this laptop with a second gen dual core i5, a mid range SSD and about 4 gb of ram cache - akin to a ramdisk - I get about one hour. If you have a brand new quadcore, the process should be a lot faster, I would expect.

Keep task manager running and see where the bottleneck is. Is the processor running at max speed most of the time? If not, then either your hard disk is too slow, or there is something else slowing it down. I would expect the latter. For me the processor works at 100 percent almost all the time, so if I had a faster processor, I would expect it to be faster, as that seems to be the bottleneck.

@ KrX:

Yes, with the Power Shell command I got rid of the Metro Apps, DANKE!!!

Do you know a way to do the same with the Windows accessories (On screen keyboard, Snipping tool, ecc.).

In previous OS normally "Remove Win Components" would do, but on Win 8 it's crazy, man!

Thanks Smile

What happens if you create a user of type Administrators? Do you still experience the bug?

You can run DISM to manually remove packages from the system. This is new in Windows 8.1.

Dism.exe /online /Remove-ProvisionedAppxPackage /PackageName

To know the different packages, type
dism /online /Get-ProvisionedAppxPackages | clip

The | clip sends the output to clipboard so you can copy to a text file easily.

Note: This will not be an easy process.
