Since the delevoper adds features to integrate programs - automtic installations, 90% of all questions and problems in the forum belong to program installations and errors with them.

To my mind, it makes sence that the program is called "winreducer" and not "wininstaller".
So I hope, that winterstorm will still focus on reduceing the windows installations.

yes you´r right.

1. Removing Windows Components using WinReducer could remove some features you need.  Wink
2. Removing Windows Components using WinReducer could break some Windows Updates. It's a known bug but I can't really do something because Windows use a some Updates to fix many windows components at the same time. So if one of these components is missing the update will not be installed. The best choice you have will be to integrate all updates (using winreducer)  before WinReduce Windows !  Very Happy

Guys, I'm totally agree with you, and I don't want to spend my time to correct trouble with integrated software. And I always keep in mind, that the primary purpose of WinReducer is to reduce even more Windows with a great stability. It's just hard enough ! But with all your ideas and feedbacks, it's a real pleasure to create and improve WinReducer !  Very Happy

Pretty normal. This applys nearly to all removed components.
If it will be possible to simply add a removed component, when you can simply remove ALL components winreducer offers, start your windows, install your programms and simply add the files that were missing. This would be great and we all have no testing to do and all our installs will be as small as they can be, but thats not the way it works.
So think frist and after that start removing.

also there are problems with wind. updates

Yes, there are a few components and/or cleanup points, that break windows updates.

Hey winterstorm2050 Very Happy

First of all HAPPY NEW YEAR and THANKS for the amazing job you are doing!!!

I would like to report a small issue... That's what I did:

- On a Win 8.1 Pro 64 bit UEFI laptop I reduced (moderately, I would say) my Win 8.1 Pro 64 bit .iso

- I created a bootable USB flashdrive

- I installed on a separate freshly formatted laptop (identical hardware) and all went smoothly

When I boot into Windows all works fine and looks just as expected EXCEPT:

1) I insert a disk in the CD/DVD drive and it shows normally in "This PC" (I can also explore/browse the disk) but the application (DriverPack solution) on the disk will not run (it did work fine in the same Win 8.1 unreduced installation);

2) If I right-click on the start button I can only see Sign out (in the same Win 8.1 unreduced installation I could see Sleep, Restart, Shutdown etc.);

3) The taskbar icons randomly disappear (in the same Win 8.1 unreduced installation this obviously never happened);

4) Any inserted USB flashdrive randomly auto-eject (in the same Win 8.1 unreduced installation this obviously never happened).

Could you kindly tell me what I should do... Would it help if I PM you my preset.wccf so you can see if I did something wrong?

Thanks a lot!!!

Hello and welcome,

Happy new year too ...  Very Happy

1. Maybe a .net framework 3.5 depending application ? But I'm not sure.
2. This is the case if you choose "Tweaks - CTRL+ALT+DEL Screen", everything will be disable also in the WinX menu. You could use "Appearance - Activate Desktop Context Menu" to configure logoff, restart and shutdown.
3. Which version of winreducer are you using ? Did you remove "Modern UI - Immersive Cpl" ? Is this happens after using Modern UI Apps and go back desktop ?
4. Never experienced this, so I can't tell what it is. Maybe try with another thumb drive or usb port, and see what happens ...

Have a nice day and thank you for your feedback !  Smile

Hi winterstorm2050,

I have a couple of (stupid) questions for you:

Can I use a preset (.wccf file) made with v0.99.5 on the newest release coming tomorrow (v0.99.6)? Are .wccf files made with the previous version fully compatible with v0.99.6?

Is v0.99.6 a final version, since v0.99.5 was labelled "Pre-Final"?

One suggestion (probably also stupid) Very Happy

What about making a Preset Editor? To edit a .wccf file can be done in Notepad (but it is kind of easy to make mistakes if you are not familiar with the features properties)... To do it in WinReducer, the .iso or the folder must be mounted first and that takes time.

So I was just thinking, since you already have the GUI, why not making a simple editor, with which the user can quickly load the .wccf file and (using the same GUI as WinReducer) the preset can be easily edited and the changes can be saved to the preset .wccf file. The Preset Editor can also be a useful tool to review a .wccf file on a (different) computer where the .iso file or the (extracted) folder are not present.

Would that be much work?

Please feel free to comment openly and if my questions and suggestion were indeed stupid, do let me know Wink

Thanks again for all your efforts.

Hey Archimede,

There are no stupid questions, only ideas my friend ...  Wink

1. Yes, you could use wccf file from v0.99.5 in upcoming v0.99.6 (they are compatible). The only thing you need to take care is : if there are new components you need to configure them depending on your needs.

2. No, v0.99.6 will be still in pre-final status, in fact v1.00 will be the final build. And we are really close to it ...  Very Happy

3. I think your idea is excellent about the "Preset Editor". I will try to include it in the v1.00, thank you for your idea !

Have a nice day !

 Very Happy

Hey winterstorm2050 and thanks for your kind reply Smile

1. About the .wccf file compatibility between v0.99.5 and v0.99.6 all is clear now... (I always prefer to ask rather than have to find out the hard way).

2. Indeed we are really close to the final version!!! Once more congratulations for the outstanding job that you (and your team) have done so far.

3. I am glad you appreciated my suggestion about the Preset Editor and I am happy to hear that you will try to include it in v1.00... Now I have one more reason to be impatient Very Happy

I have just downloaded v0.99.6 and I am going to test it right away! Hopefully (paying better attention this time and following the advices you recently provided) I will manage to solve the small issues that I faced in my previous attempt and reported in my recent feedback about v0.99.5.

I wish you a pleasant Sunday Very Happy

Does this mean that changing user account picture will work even if 'immersive control panel' is removed?

Ah, cool. I think it was working in 0.99.5 anyway, with everything except ICP removed.

Or maybe that was because I followed the sequence you asked me to, and now you have fixed it so that on the first reduction itself we can remove everything except ICP and still be able to change account picture.

Hi winterstorm2050,

I am happy to say that 3 of the 4 problems (listed below for easy reference) have been solved during the 2 reductions i did today with v0.99.6.

I sincerely hope that I will find a solution to the persisting problem (number 1 below) or else I fear that I will not be able to enjoy my "WinReduced Windows 8.1" (since I cannot use my notebook without a functional CD/DVD drive)... And that would be very sad Sad

The CD/DVD drive works fine on the same laptop with the Win 8.1 "unreduced" installation... So there must be something that I either do wrong or something in WinReducer that affects the CD/DVD drive functionality.

Please let me know if you feel like quickly looking through my preset (.wccf file) so that you might identify the culprit... Maybe the newly developed Preset Editor would be the ideal tool for you to immediately pinpoint a flaw in my preset file, who knows.

Thanks,

Archimede

The problem of not being able to install language packs seems to be caused by the 'remove' tab, section tweaks.
I can remove stuff, change services, remove components, protect components, without problem, however as soon as i use any 'tweaks' for example, show hidden files, it breaks the installation and i can no longer install language packs.
Hopefully this is helpful to resolve this bug.
