WinReducer 8 - v0.39 (alpha) - 2013.02.17 (BUGGY - do not use it)

so, after installing my personal lite win 8 x64 pro version with integrated windows updates, my disk c: is almost 10 gb: about 7.8 gb are stored in WINSXS folder!!!
so, i found this trick:

i tried it and WINSXS has passed from 7.8 to 5.1 gb!!

is it possible to something to WINSXS folder?

Yes this works only if you integrate it before customize and reduce your ISO, otherwise you can't integrate it after the installation.

hi winterstorm, i made a new build and all is perfect. the only error i got was with the file unattended: at the end of the install process, a pop up told me that windows was unable to read unattended (or a similar message). i replaced the new unattended with the old...and all went ok.

i have an question: can you explain how the feature: reduce window border and padding work? if i check it, how is the new padding?

tip: it would be better if you can put a dropdownbox displaying the border width and padding and so the user can select his custom new width, like this software do: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Hey winter, great job so far.
A few issues though after installation:
-all metro apps where still there, although I removed them
-right click Shutdown, reboot, logoff didn't show up
-Windows Search service was stil there and running

How funny, I just stumbled on that same link yesterday and did the same thing you did! I did it because I wanted to make a system backup image and wanted to see if it made a difference in backup image size. However, I think it applies to live systems and not to install images. I do wonder if it makes a difference when performing this compacting method before making a sysprep'd install, if the resulting image would be smaller or not. But for live systems it is a nice method

Winter, I don't think it's the case. I created 2 fresh ISO, one
original with .net 3.5 enabled with DISM, then an other one created with
WinReducer 0.37 following your guidance in a support post.
I tested both, .net works well.
Then I use them to remove components with WinReducer 0.38 & 0.39. Both still have .net enabled, but corrupted. cf. Screenshot
Obviously I can't repair it, even if I uninstall, reinstall.

No, you didn't miss something, but your comment is interesting because it seems that the accessibilty is causing the bug. I need to check that.
For the moment try to do not check "accessibilty"

i have a strange problem...i'm on win 8 and mount the iso image i want to customize...then i select it with winreducer...and then i get an error message saying that i need to select another folder because the current one is nor valid... any idea why? thx

Try to delete the "config.xml" file in "APPS" folder

same error message... "Choose another folder, because you choose an invalid folder..."

the error appears if i extract the iso or if a choose the folder where it's already extracted.... i have deleted the config.xml and nothing...

Try to rename the folder, where you extracted Windows 8, by something like win8_x32. Tell me how it works, thanks ...
