@KrX  Ok, that should be fairly simple to fix.  I'm waiting to hear from Yuriy so I can see why the batch files are failing.

Ok, Yuriy.

Let's find out what's happening.

Please could you mount your boot.wim file, as before, but this time I just want to capture a complete listing of the files within your boot.wim image.

so, when the image is mounted, from the cmd prompt, please type:

Code:

dir  /a  /ogn  /s  /b   d:\wimoffline >image_list.txt

Thanks Very Happy

Here's what happened

Yuriy,
I forgot to ask...  What is your full version/edition of Windows 7 that you are working on?

EDIT: Wait a minute.... I think you're using Windows 8 ??

The batch files I sent are for Windows 7. I'll have to see if I can make them Windows 8 compatible...

@torrentus and brittech

maybe we want to much, and we should maybe offer only a small bit of the batch (i.e. only to remove files from SOURCES folder ) and after some people tested it and it works winter could add this part to winreducer, and we could offer the next part for testing etc

what do you think ?

descriptionSlim down boot.wim - Page 3 EmptyRe: Slim down boot.wim

@KrX  you're probably right.  Although, we could perhaps continue to ask users in the background to test certain stuff... They love it Laughing

@Yuriy

Try this,
 remove_dirs_3.bat

But you will now need this file, place it in your Windows folder.
 rm.exe

We just need to find out which universal drivers we need to keep, so it will also work for people with different hardware.

But I already pointed the solution. For the people that my boot.wim will not work, put back all removed drivers to
my boot.wim , rebuild it and see if you can now install Windows. If it works, remove the drivers step by step.
Then we will know which are the ones to keep. These are the driver locations:

Windows\inf
Windows\System32\drivers
Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository

ALSO GUYS BEFORE YOU ARE DOING ANYTHING, TRY MY BOOT.WIM WITH YOUR ALREADY SLIMMED DOWN WINDOWS WITH WINREDUCER AND SEE IF IT WORKS
PS. THIS BOOT.WIM IS FOR US-ENGLISH ONLY!

Also for the people that trying to use my boot.wim and it won't work, did you remove all Windows editions with Winreducer in your ISO!?
Because that could also make a problem if you didn't remove them!

descriptionSlim down boot.wim - Page 3 EmptyRe: Slim down boot.wim

Try this, if you have Windows 7 SP1 Ultimate x64 (US-English) and you are using my boot.wim and you have an error with the Windows installation,
did you remove with Winreducer all other editions besides Ultimate? If not, remove them and see if the Windows installation now works...
If it still doesn't work try the solution I posted above...

@Torrentus  your boot.wim worked once I restored these files only!
see post #8200

"Windows\System32\en-US\Licenses\_Default\Enterprise\license.rtf"
"Windows\System32\en-US\Licenses\_Default\Professional\license.rtf"
"Windows\System32\en-US\Licenses\_Default\HomePremium\license.rtf"

If people find your boot.wim is broken, try restoring those files first.

Btw Guys, do you want to install it on your SSD or HDD ? Because I think I removed the universal SSD driver, this could be also the problem...

@brittech and KrX to make it clear, do you guys have a SSD and tried to install with my boot.wim ? It would be good to know if you can install on a SSD or not, I don't have one yet but soon Wink .
The problem is I did this boot.wim half year ago and I can't remember if I removed universal SSD drivers or not...

 rm.exe

That's ok. I've removed parts of the original folder names so they match Windows 7 or 8.

Let me know if it works. Then I will try to fix remove_files.bat

A windows 8.1 will work? All the same, it differs from 8.

You also need this
 rm.exe

It is necessary to boot.wim or Windows itself?

descriptionSlim down boot.wim - Page 3 EmptyRe: Slim down boot.wim

more_horiz
it is necessary for boot.wim, but you need then to place it at the directory where you are working... example D:\

It is used in the batch file instead of 'rmdir'

My boot.wim is for Windows 7 SP1 x64 Ultimate (US-English) not for Windows 8.1 Wink

But it would be great if it also works for other Windows versions... Did you try? Does it work?

descriptionSlim down boot.wim - Page 3 EmptyRe: Slim down boot.wim

I'll try it on windows 8 and I'll let you know Very Happy

EDIT: It also works on windows 8  What a Face

So I have this boot.wim nothing happened. I think the reason is 8.1 (see, you are 7 -) ... I tried all the ways to say here - nothing. Shocked Sad Mad Very Happy  Who does that say about this.
On this threw everything and completed a translation into Russian for the latest versions of WinReduser, but then I did not want to because of it they work - now everything is OK. Smile

KrX or Torrentus, I want to try your batch files but all the links are broken...
May you re-upload please?

brittech, or anyone else who has problems with Zippyshare or other hosts, try to use Google DNS (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4).

i send you an PM, bot for all that are also interested:

hi,

you asked for the boot, wim batch file:

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

you will need to change some lines here. i.e.:

- i remove files with german languages from folders with de-DE
- i remove all keyboards exept german once
- i remove files from all windows edition exept Pro N
. i remove all NLS files exept german once
- i remove all drivers i dont need

it could also be that some files i remove you need to keep so your boot.wim will work. i think that this batch removes nearly everything possible, i couldnt remove more or the boot.wim broke.

with this batch my boot.wim gets ~44,8 mb and it worked for all my PCs/notbooks i tried with my iso + VM
