[EX-100 - v2.0.9.0] [RS4 Build 17134.1] Extreme Preset Testing

Hi.

Every now and then I decide that I need a new Winreduced installation of Windows 10. Tried RS5 at first but had some compatibility issues when trying those installations. Will have a go at RS5 at a later time. Until then I grabbed RS4 and had better results so decided to stick with that version. And now the fun starts...

In the meantime I have build several dozens of winreduced installations and kept a record with every new build I made as I always do.

Currently testing some of the last versions. In a while I will post my results that I found until now.

Current issues:

Still have to specify which specific components result in these errors. Seems a compilation of the Search components for the setup OOBeRegion Fault where no setup is possible. 

A combination of the Defender components result in a update roll-back at 99 percent when using Windows Update.

The only sure thing is that Windows Mixed Reality (Simulation) that when added back the first update setup went away. Setup gave a message that an update is required to continue. After pressing next the setup restarted and thus resulted in a loop.

Notes:

Installed the latest version on my main computer. No major issues. Everything seems fine.

Issues:

- Websetup of DirectX failed in error message. Offline setup worked.

- Setup of VmWare. Required DLL missing. Tried other application installers and there were no problems.

- Microphone input does not work with Volume Mixer. Only through Realtek Audio Manager.

- Ease of Access - Cursor and Pointer Size remains selectable under Ease of Access.

- Game launcher needs faultrep.dll. Manually installed it in 'system32' directory. Is connected to Windows Error Reporting removal.

- NVidia Control Panel not showing up after driver install.

Winreducer 2.0.7.0 using Windows Home RS4 17134.0 English 

Here the latest preset I made for my own personal use. Currently testing this as a daily driver. If there are any problems of any kind I will post them above.

To start of I use VmWare for my tests. As for the OOBeRegion fault in setup. It is the first time for me that I have seen this happen during setup. I have to say I did not check the VirtualBox or VmWare protection in Winreducer but I think this is not the problem.

Everytime I had a problem installing Windows I rechecked the version of the build until the problem went away so it must be something with those components I mentioned. 

I did not save the preset and the image I made which had this. I will try to recreate the same. Will test again under different conditions.

Results:


Going back to different presets with extra components removed. This time using VirtualBox since VMWare has a setup fault missing dll.


Version 0.1: Goes into second phase of setup without problems.
Scratch that last comment. Forgot indexing options.
Included indexing options + Files. Got OOBeWelcome Message.
Skip section goes to OOBeRegion Message.
Version 0.2: Has OOBeRegion message. Recheck version 0.1
Version 1.2: Has OOBeRegion message.


Conclusion:

Indexing option + Files results in OOBeWelcome and  or OOBeRegion message during setup.

Checked the link. There you only state that you found the bug but I can not see what kind of bug it is. What I understand it happens with customized and non-customized editions of Windows 10 english. With the UEFI and or BIOS addition for the iso and so on.

Off course also using english iso. As stated in preset hunting in my case the Indexing options removal probably removing the files section results in the OOBeWelcome message. This is not the same in later presets. As stated in the complete removal process I went straight into OOBeRegion message skipping the OOBeWelcome all together but in some way I think they are linked to the removal.

As I said before I have removed Indexing Options and all other search components before without getting those messages in the second phase of the setup. This was I think in the RS3 that I was using before. So in RS4 and probably also in RS5 when removing Indexing Options this will happen.

I will make a final iso based on the version 1.2 preset with search removed and only the indexing option link leaving the files section in the reduced version.


Tried new version but still got OOBeRegion so no luck.

That only leaves why I also can not remove Defender, Defender Firewall and smartscreen. This was possible in RS3. Now I have to find why Windows Update still wants to update the definition files for Defender even if it is removed with Winreducer. This could be that not all relevant files are removed and Windows Update still thinks that an update is possible. Sometimes if not always Windows Update wants to retry the installation. After restarting the updates roll-back at 99 percent occurs and nothing gets installed.

About "Windows Defender" in your v1.2 you need to also remove :
- "Services - Windows Defender Service"
- "Services - Windows Defender Security Center Service"
- "Services - Windows Defender System Guard Service"

Conclusion Defender Removal

- No Defender Update anymore.
- Windows does update to latest version.
- Does not finish complete update after restart. Still undoing changes but for which update?
- Stays in Update and Restart mode under shutdown.


Why does it updates but still stays in an update loop when these components are removed? Good question. Something is confusing Windows Update. Maybe it is Smart Screen or the Firewall. Will have a look later.

I have tested this in my own version 1.3 keeping United Kingdom and all other components remove fine again. My solution was keeping Indexing Options which also keeps a working setup. Keeping Language United Kingdom is the better option of the two. Just as removing United States gave problems in the past even if the installation media was in another language. Adding United Kingdom to the non removable components in Languages is good enough.

Version 1.5 Update


As over all the different presets the OOBeIDPS had not occurred yet so I had no idea how to recreate this in my own builds. I think version 1.4 is mostly at the end of removing components that are relevant without breaking Windows. Until now I only have minor issues with the reduced versions I made and for me they are perfectly usable. Still I wanted to try out one or two more versions before I step over to RS5.

As little as I could remove in version 1.5 I cherry picked some components. Grabbed VirtualBox again and tried out a new install and there it was the OOBeIDPS fault. One component that told me not to removed all this time and in my case it was Azure Active Directory. Placed it back and the setup worked again.

In the early days of Windows 10 reducing I always remembered some troubles with removing Azure Active Directory but had no idea anymore why this was. It definitely did not have the same effect as it has now with the setup in RS4.

I hope that in other builds the OOBeIDPS is also the reason of a removed Azure Active Directory. I can only recommend to leave this component in at the moment to rule out any further problems.
