Hi.

Trying to make a reduced build of Windows 7 SP1 Pro with the update catalog available in the Winreducer Update tool. I have noticed that this has not been updated for a while. So I had to update Windows 7 a bit more to get it with the latest update. Since I was tweaking my preset anyway I decided to create my own update list that will get a bit further.

These are the updates I am using currently:

- Windows6.1-KB2545698-x64 ; - Windows6.1-KB2547666-x64 ; - Windows6.1-KB2603229-x64 ; - Windows6.1-KB2667402-v2-x64 ; - windows6.1-kb2676562-x64

After a install of Windows 7 the following updates try to install in Windows Update but fail:

- kb2830477 ; Old update from 10-2-2014.
- kb4338821 ; Preview of Monthly roll-up.
- kb2592687 ; Old update from 22-10-2012.
- kb2670838 ; Old update from 11-02-2013.
- kb2676562 ; Old update from 07-05-2012.
- kb971033 ; Activation update check.

Results:

Seems that Windows update tries to install missing updates that are not necessary anymore. Only the Preview of Monthly roll-up fails. Hopefully when the final update is released it will install fine.

When I test this install for the first time I am still missing a few Net framework updates and a few more but nothing special. Maybe I will add some more later. When the updates are integrated into Windows 7 x64 it is updated fine well into 2018 again.

Next:

Now I am building a second version and tweaked some more components. Using the updates that are mentioned above.

The first set of updates installed fine. Second run the optional updates kb2670838, kb2592687, kb2830477 fail but as I said earlier they are old updates. Third run kb982670 a NET Framwork update installed fine. The same failing optional updates came back. Last run I will try the monthly preview update again. Result is still the same. It fails.

Results:

Current small issues over the two builds.

Start menu links remains.
 - Internet explorer.
 - Internet Explorer (No-addons) .
 - Help and support (maintenance folder)

Also removed the Internet Explorer engine and see if the links still remain in the start menu.

Next:

For the third build I will add the following updates just for testing how Windows Update will react. This includes the old updates that fails. If they still come up as optional updates then only hiding them in Windows Update is possible.

- Windows6.1-KB2574819-v2-x64 ; - Windows6.1-KB2592687-x64 ; - Windows6.1-KB2670838-x64 ; - Windows6.1-KB2830477-x64
- Windows6.1-KB3003743-x64 ; - Windows6.1-KB3102429-v2-x64

Results:

Start menu links Update.
- Removal of the Internet Explorer links are in the Internet Explorer (engine) component. I expect this to be linked to Internet Explorer feature itself. Since the removal of the engine can give compatibility issues with other software as mentioned in the description of the engine component.

All of the updates except one have disappeared from Windows Update. Only KB2670838 remains and keeps failing in Windows Update itself. Also the preview update fails.

Next:

No fourth build at the moment. Only one update. Windows itself is good enough now.

- Windows6.1-KB3177467-x64 appeared in Windows Update. Added it to the integrate option.
