Hi.

Earlier cumulative updates installed without problems on my current reduced Windows 10. Now the latest version fails to install. Really frustrating completing a working build and using it day to day to see it go poof again on the updates. I will try again to find the culprit this time.

Here we go.

The last time this happened if i remember correctly it were the following components:

- Application Experience (Engine)
- Network - Wireless - Marvell
- Cortana

Still can't understand why these aren't protected by the Windows Update preset.

This time it seems to be someting else. Maybe somebody has an idea.

Currently reducing several builds:

Build v0.1 - Basic build

- (Download) - Probably complete. Not sure.
- (Restart) - Update doesn't start.
- (History) - Reports succesfull installation.
- (Download) - Cumulative update restarts.
- (Restart) - Cumulative update fails at 8%.
- (History) - Update succesfull installation.

Results...

Windows 10 version same as before. No update fails. No roll-back either.

Build v0.2 - Adding Accessoiries

- (Restart) - Cumulative update fails at 7%.
- (Update) - Couldn't finish message.
- (History) - Update succesfull installation.
- (Download) - Cumulative update restarts.

Results...

Windows 10 version same as before. Update fails. No roll-back.

Build v0.3 - Adding Control Panels, Drivers, Keyboards, Languages

- (Restart) - Cumulative update fails at 8%.
- (History) - Update succesfull installation.
- (Download) - Cumulative update restarts.

Build v0.4 - Adding Modern UI Apps, Multimedia

- (Restart) - Cumulative update fails at 7%.
- (Update) - Couldn't finish message.
- (History) - Update succesfull installation.
- (Download) - Cumulative update restarts.

After a crap load of builds the new conflicting components are:

- Still completely lost. Added a lot back and still no update. Taking a lot longer as I thought.

ps. If anybody has time would they please post if the latest updates works and a general direction which components were removed.

Thanks.

For your help with the following components...

Features: - Net Framework 4.6 Network Advanced (can be Disabled only)
- Removed in current build. Will add in testing.
Accessories: - Tablet PC (Ink) - can be removed with latest WinReducer
- Removed in current build. Will add in testing.
Network: - Azure Active Directory

- Not removed in current build.
Internet Explorer (Developer Tools)

- Removed in current build. Will add in testing.
Tweaks: - System - Disable User Account Control (UAC)

- Not removed in current build.
Services: - App Readiness Service
- Not removed in current build.
Windows Indexing (can be Disabled only)

- Not removed in current build.

Try not remove:
Network: Azure Active Directory.

Ok, so this is for me:

Code:

Features: - Net Framework 4.6 Network Advanced (can be Disabled only)
Accessories: - Tablet PC (Ink) - can be removed with latest WinReducer
    Network: - Azure Active Directory
             - Internet Explorer (Developer Tools)
Tweaks: - System - Disable User Account Control (UAC)
   Services: - App Readiness Service
             - Windows Indexing (can be Disabled only)

Edit:
It seems to me that writing this list does not make much sense. Any new update can do anything that has been removed by WinReducer earlier and a newer update will fail. I just think.

On the above it worked with me with 3-4 updates downloaded automatically and went without problem. Until the last I had to look for and found Azure Active Directory. My Windows has almost everything removed.

Back again.

Did a few more things trying out what is going on. Installed a complete version of Windows 10 RS2 on my system for the moment to have thing working for now. Had some extra time and could not resist to try one more time. Now I only removed the following to keep it very clean.

Windows 10 Home v0.1
Removed:
- Features
  - Hyper-V (0.1)
  - Windows Media Player (0.1)
- Remover
 - Drivers
  - Hyper-V (0.1)
  - Printer (0.1)
  - Scanner (0.1)
 - Keyboards
  - All
 - Languages
  - All (0.1)
 - Modern UI Apps
  - Bing (0.1)
  - Zune (0.1)
 - Themes
  - Almost All (0.1)
 - Multimedia
  - Windows Media Center (0.1)
- Finish
 - Optimizations
  - Optimizations
   - ISO - Boot - Delete Unneeded Editions (0.1)
   - ISO - Windows - Delete Unneeded Editions (0.1)
 - Options
  - Removing Speed
   - Highest (0.1)

As you all can see I did not removed very much but still the same problem exists. Can not update the latest cumulative update. Still it is downloading, installing and finally loops back again.

I can try rebuilding the same preset without integrating updates and see if that works but then it means that the integrating part of Winreducer is not working properly with RS2 which is possible.

And at last I see that the cumulative update downloaded by Winreducer is KB4022716 and then it tries to install KB4025342 which fails.

Normal clean install of Windows grabs KB4022725 and also KB4025342 and then it installs successfully.

As I can see KB4022716 is an update after KB4022725. Maybe the updates should be in sequence this time and can not skip to KB4022716 directly.

Going to grab a download of KB4022725 and using this for Winreducer with the same preset and will see if it works then.

Thanks.

Update: Tried a KB4022725 install integrated with winreducer. This time the update counter goes to 14% and then restarts but again does not complete the version update. Cumulative update still received as successful in the update history but KB4025342 again runs in a loop since the Windows version is not updated. In essence the same as before.

Can integrate KB4022725 and KB4025342 with Winreducer the same as Windows 10 updates itself but since there isn't a newer cumulative update available yet I can not test if this will work.

Have no idea what is differen't with KB4025342 and why it isn't compatible anymore when Winreducer has been used. As I said earlier the clean install installed everythine fine.

One last build with the same Winreducer preset removing the main updates and letting Windows doing its job. This will probably work just as good as a clean iso install.

Lets see. BRB.

As expected a clean install reduced worked fine. Will wait for the next cumulative update and will see in which combination a further reduced install will work or not. Maybe there is still a flaw in with Winreducer with the support of RS2 when integrating updates until now or the implementation of the updates that Microsoft supplies has changed. For now it will be tricky to reduce a installation too much because the build I used now as a daily driver also would not update anymore. Still there is a combination with RS2 and some components that breaks future cumulative updates.

Will build various different Windows 10's and I will see what happens next.

Hi.

Waited for the new KB4032188 update to arrive to try once more. Made just a simple reduced version with only Hyper-V and Media Center removed. Added the previous kb4025342 update to the install. Did not integrate it this time. Tried a new install in VMWare and again after downloading KB4032188 Windows restarts. Does not show any update information and stays at the previous version.

Still running a full install from the same iso that I am using also for Winreducer and that updates fine. I still have no idea how to get this working properly. No reduced Windows 10 for me for a while. Will try again when Winreducer gets updated or a solution has been found. When this happens I will give it a shot.

Till then...

hi,

do i get this right:

Made just a simple reduced version with only Hyper-V and Media Center removed. Added the previous kb4025342 update to the install.

you first remove components with winreducer and after that you want to integrate updates? if yes try it the other way around. normally you should integrate updates and after that remove components.
since if you remvoe a component and want to integrate after that an update and it needs files from one component you removed earlier it will fail

Hi.

That is not what I meant. I am not adding the update to a reduced iso of Windows 10. Use a clean iso adding the previous cumulative update and in the same profile also removing only Hyper-V and Media Center. This reduced iso does not update to the latest version of Windows 10.

In the past I could update a reduced Windows 10 to later versions without problems until recently. Before it were some components that would stop the update but now whatever I try it will not work. With only Hyper-V and Media Center removed this  is not the problem.

I am at a stand still. It is probably some compatabiliy issue with RS2 and Winreducer as it is not fully supported yet I think. I hoped to solve this but it seems it is not possible with the current versions.

Thanks.

Hello guys Smile

I'm testing things, using the carlese wccf (but without unattended part), about this issue :

- TEST 1 :
I reduced a Windows 10 v1703 (15063.0) build ... then install it in a VMware Player virtual machine ... and update it using Windows Update = All latest updates have been installed correctly = OK

- TEST 2 :
- I reduced a Windows 10 v1703 (15063.0) build ... I relaunched EX-100 to integrate the July update (KB4032188) ... and installed it in a VMware Player virtual machine ... then update it using Windows Update = All latest updates have been installed correctly = OK

- TEST 3 :
- I reduced a Windows 10 v1703 (15063.502) build (July update (KB4032188) have been previously integrated using EX-100) ... and installed it in a VMware Player virtual machine ... then update it using Windows Update = All latest updates have been installed correctly = After a manual system reboot

Could you please try the procedure mentioned in my TEST 1 and let me know Smile

If Win10Pro_x64_1703_15063.0 1) reduce with EX-100 , 2) update to KB4022405 3) update to KB4032188 --> it breaks some features, but the main problem - svchost->taskhostw.exe stops working with a desktop and apps blocking message (until killing a few times with the procexp.exe)  (tried only with KB4022405, didn't got problems, so looks like problem with KB4032188).
The right process to make a working Win10 without problems from source Win10Pro_x64_1703_15063.0:
1) integrate all updates- Windows10.0-KB4022405-x64 , Windows10.0-KB4025376-x64, Windows10.0-KB4032188-x64, windows10.0-KB4034674-x64 --> get Win10Pro_x64_1703_15063.540
2) with EX-100 reduce, tweak, etc.

P.S.
Forgot to mention:
don't install / don't integrate KB4025342, it's replaced (I think repaired) by the cumulative update KB4032188.
And the last cumulative update KB4034674 replaces KB4032188, but I'm integrating both: 1) KB4032188 --> 2) KB4034674

I use Windows 10 Pro 15063.0 x64 running WinReducer 1.8.9.0 x64 without any problem under VMware
Same integrating 4022405 (Servicing Stack) 4034662 5Flash Player) 4034674 (Cumulative August)

So I don't know what is wrong with yours environment.

I just notice that "TWEAKS Classic GUI - Enable Windows Photo Viewer" take a long time > 400sec

I found out that it breaks Sticky Notes if you remove Windows Store in the installation image.
(But you can remove Windows Store with Powershell "remove-appxpackage" for the local user without breaking Sticky Notes).

Hi.

Back again. Had no internet connection for several days. Thanks everybody for testing and explaining things I also did not know about. Will skip the ..342 cumulative update as said it is faulty. Did not have any other update at the time to test to the next ..188 update.

If integrating ..188 including ..674 works then I will try that when I have more free time. Will experiment further reducing and hopefully I can use a reduced Windows 10 again that updates without any problems.

Still glad it only was a cumulative update and not a removed component again.

Thanks and will post my own results later...

Hello guys,

This issue should be fixed in the build v1.8.10.0 which will be available on Friday 18 August 2017.

Thanks for the report Smile

EDIT : I confirm what I mentioned earlier, the fix will be integrated in v1.8.10.0 ... and please next time open a dedicated bugs report thread. Thanks Wink
