[ANSWERED] Update installation after deploying image including the updates

Dear community and winterstorm,

I have created a custom Windows 8.1 Pro x64 image including all current updates from catalog 2015.10. After deploying this image to a laptop I had to download another 98 updates which were previously downloaded by WinReducerEx81 and should have therefor been included in the image.

Following you find a list of those 98 updates that were installed after the image deployment.

Can you please have a look at them? I created the image twice to sort out problems during creation of the first image. But the outcome was the same.

Hello,

Have you searched in the "Optional" updates in the "WinReducer Updates Downloader" tool. In fact, you need to install both "Important" and "Optional" updates to get all updates.
Maybe some updates are still missing, just only because I haven't updated the catalog yet to November tuesday patch.

The update catalog was from october and my first try was before the november updates were available. The interesting fact is that those updates are in the download- and include folder of WinReducerEx81. So they should have been definitely included in the image.

Additionaly I checked the Update downloader and with october catalog there are no more avalable updates:

Hello,

During installation all Microsoft Updates checks the compatibility to avoid installing a wrong updates on a system.

So, are you sure that your ISO integrates Update 3 ? (Which represents the minimum requirements since April)

I am working with 2 steps. As a start I use an Image downloaded on november 2014. With this I create an image where the only modification done is the integration of all available updates. Based on the image created during this step I create system dependend images for multiple machine types.

I downloaded a fresh image from Microsoft which is appr. 800MB bigger than the image I used originally. Whether this solves the problem I can only tell when I need the image the first time.

Apart from that any running machine installing the updates every month should have the same state as an image including all those updates at once. At least from my understanding. Am I wrong at this point?

Hello,

You're right in theory, but MS is not releasing new updated ISO each month, so you need to install all missing updates after installation in order to get all of them, like in a running updated machine.

In a running environment, there is a cleanup, after updates installation, if you use Windows Updates ... In a slipstreaming updated ISO, MS has not provided such cleanup process after updates integration (it exists but only if you integrate no pending updates, unfortunately pending status is required for many of them), so I'm working on a solution in order to reduce the final ISO size once all updates are integrated.

MS changes this with Windows 10, with all cumulative updates ... only necessary updates are install in a one way pass, instead of integrating 150 updates to get the same work.
