When I use a reduced windows (8.1 core X64), the start menu has two weirdly named items. Clicking on the first one produces no result at all. Clicking on the second one gives me an error message "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Please install a program or..."

I am guessing that this has something to do with removing a link to something, perhaps homegroup or network. Can these two weird items be removed from the start menu? Note that I have a start menu because I use startisback.

I have had this problem in all recent versions of winreducer.

I am linking to three pictures - the first one shows my start menu, the second and third pics show the full name of those items when I hover my mouse over them. There are keys with those names in the registry. I'm not sure what the keys do, so I did not try deleting them.

Hey Winter,
As I mentioned in the first post, I am usiing the program "startisback" to get a start menu.

On normal windows installations this issue does not occur. It happens only on reduced windows. So I am sure that it has something to do with a link being removed. Could be homegroup and/or network.

I have figured out that the first item is a link to "devices and printers", and the second one is a link to "default programs". But neither of these links work when clicked. And neither of them display their proper names, instead displaying registry key.

TOPIC MOVED TO "WINREDUCER 8.1 HELP" FORUM !

Wink

Hello,

This occurs because you removed for :

- "devices and printers" = in WinReducer 8.1 "Control Panel - Device Center (Files)"

- "default programs" = in WinReducer 8.1 "Accessories - Set Program Access and Defaults"

So, in fact you have 2 choices :

1 - Keep these WinReducer components but they will still be present in Windows

2 - As this not a WinReducer bug, so I encouraged you to find how to remove those links in "startisback". Maybe in "startisback" options to configure which elements will be displayed in your start menu ?

Best Regards.
